Words cannot express the great sadness
that the family announces the passing of Helen
Louise Goodwin, 85, of Amherst, NS. Helen passed away
Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Northumberland Hall in
Amherst.
Born in Wentworth, NS, she was a
daughter of the late Ellsworth and Annie (MacDonald)
McGill.
In her younger years, Helen worked for
North American Life in Halifax and later for Bonds Clothing in
Longueil, QC. When returning to Nova Scotia she worked for
Douglas Rogers Insurance and retired from Amherst Insurance in 2002
after 47 years of service. Helen offered her services at the Highland
View Regional Hospital gift shop and the gift shop, information desk
and foundation of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. She was
Vice-President and member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Auxiliary
and a member of the RCAF Auxiliary. She also served on the
Board of the Cumberland Regional Library for 13 years. She
was a member and Elder of Immanual United Church, Amherst.
She enjoyed knitting and made and decorated countless birthday cakes
for many.
Helen will be dearly missed by her
husband Delbert (Ding); daughters, Bette, Amherst, Kathy, Calgary,
Debbie and Toula, Amherst; and son, Larry, Calgary; grandchildren,
Tamyra, Jayden, Niki, Heidi, and Trevor, and three
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Donald
(Elaine) McGill, Truro. Surviving are several nieces and
nephews and sister-in-laws, Velda Williams, Sandra (Roy) McInnis, and
Lynn (Mike) Casey.
Besides her parents she was predeceased
by her son Ricky; sisters, Dorothy Cullen, Jean (Jim) Christie and
Eileen (Lorne) Barclay; special sister-in-law, Betty (Perry) Whittle;
and nephews, Michael McGill and Bill
Whittle.
The family would like to give thanks to
the staff at Northumberland Hall.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the
Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church
St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where a visitation will take place
Monday, May 30th, 2022 from 1pm until 2pm followed by the
service.
Donations in memory of Helen may be made
to Cumberland Health Care Foundation or charity of
choice.
