Helen’s Obituary
Helen Hudema passed away on May 29th. She was born in 1931, at Berwyn, Alberta, to John and Annie Ropchan. She is pre-deceased by her parents, and husband John, siblings: Steve, Mike, George, (infant) Helen, Lily, Phyllis, and Victoria. She is survived by brothers Dan (Huguette), John, and sister-in-law, Mabel Ropchan. She is also survived by her children: Marion (Orville Weipert), Phil (Helen MacDonald), Al (Lucia van der Meer), Vivian (Egan Wuth), and Vicki Hudema; grand children Ken, Monica, Michelle, Scott, Adam, Colin, Laura, and Mandy; great grand children: Eric, Sydney, Ava, Abby, Charlie, and Maya.
In addition to farming full time, and driving a school bus for over 20 years, she raised a large garden, and this large garden only stopped when she retired to town at age 84. Family was very important to her. Mom asked for very little in life, and while Mom and Dad did experience some tough times, she was quite satisfied with her life. She had only one significant request, and that was that she did not want to live in a retirement home. Mom was fortunate in that she did not have to live in a retirement home or long-term care.
Mom and Dad were able to travel more than they ever imagined. They were able to visit their children in Fernie, Chetwynd, Toronto, Abbotsford, Edmonton, Gibbons, Spruce Grove, Fort St. John, New Hazelton, Yellowknife, Ottawa, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, as well as side trips, for Mom, to Montreal, and the U.S.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manning Community Health Centre – Palliative Care or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
