WILSON, Helen E.
May 4,1927 – February 10, 2022
Helen Evangeline Wilson was born and raised in Stratford. She was the daughter of Albert and Lillian Gardiner. Helen married Edward Warren Wilson in 1949 and they had two daughters, Lois and Joan. Helen and Warren were the owners of Wilson’s Esso Furnace Oil business for many years. Helen attended Ontario Street Baptist Church from childhood. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years. After Helen and Warren retired from business she participated in many activities. She was a member of the Municipal Golf Course, helping to run the ladies’ league. She volunteered at Stratford General Hospital in the gift shop and lunch shop. She participated in line dancing with the Stratford seniors’ club and was on the executive for many years. Helen had many talents including sewing and knitting and she donated her knitting to the New Hamburg MCC store. Helen and Warren loved to travel and after Warren’s death she continued to travel with family and friends. She was an avid Blue Jays fan and attended most Stratford Days at the Jays games.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Warren, mother and father Lillian and Albert Gardiner, sister and brother-in-law Kathleen and Adam Clarke. She was also predeceased by her mother-in-law and father-in-law Luella and Jackson Wilson and brother-in-law Elroy Yost. She is remembered by two sisters-in-law Ethel Yost and Jean Wilson and many nieces and nephews. Missing her deeply are her daughters and sons-in-law Lois and Ted Kinney, Joan and Steve Campbell. She will be missed by her two grandsons and wives, Glen and Julie Kinney, Ian and Julie Kinney. Her “fabulous 5” great granddaughters Erika, Annika, Alyssa, Emily and Megan Kinney brought joy to her life.
Helen left letters for her family with her wishes “I hope that you will remember me with love and will then carry on with the rest of your life and enjoy it.” For those who knew Helen well we say thank you for your friendship that enriched our mother’s life. Be at peace Mom. Your body is gone but your love lives on.
At Helen’s request there will be no funeral service. Cremation has occurred. The family will have a private summer celebration to remember a life well lived.
Helen firmly believed in the importance of helping others and donated frequently to support many charities. If you would like to honour her, please consider showing kindness by making a donation to a charity of your choice by calling Francis Funeral Home Tavistock at 519-655-2431.
