Heather Dawn Martin
1946-2022
Heather Dawn (Halliwell) Martin, age 76 – knowing that the
house was fully decorated, tree was up, presents were bought and
wrapped, was able to pass away peacefully at home in Sheffield Mills
on Saturday, December 24, 2022, after a lengthy fight with cancer. Her
family was the most important thing to her as was shown by numerous
visits with all her loved ones in the week leading up to her
death.
She is survived and will be missed by her spouse of 58 years,
S. Eugene Martin; daughters, Laura and Andrea Martin, Sheffield Mills;
Caroline (Andrew) McManus, Falmouth; and son, Anthony Martin, Halifax;
grandchildren, Emma, Lauren and Noah McManus, Thomas, Nate and Sophie
Martin; identical twin sister, Sharon Hope Halliwell (Richard) Mader;
as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by
her parents Major George F. and Helen (Young) Halliwell, as well as
her brother George “Hollie” Halliwell.
Mom was born in Halifax, but due to being in a military
family, she lived in many places such as Germany and Petawawa and was
in London for the Queen’s coronation. However much she loved
travelling, spending time with her family was of utmost importance.
When her children were young, whatever they were involved in, you
could be certain that Mom was too. She always wanted everyone to have
fun and loved organizing games like bingo and the “zam bam”
treasure hunt. We always knew we could find Mom in her snug at 7
o’clock watching Coronation Street. She was a great friend
who could always be counted on to be a sympathetic ear and keep
secrets.
In keeping with Heather’s wishes, there will be no
visitation. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on
Saturday, December 31, 2022 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville, immediately followed by the family burial in Canard Burial
Ground, Upper Canard. Pastor Stephen Wheaton officiating. For those
unable to attend, a video webcast will be available at the time of
service. Donations in her memory can be made to the Lodge that Gives,
Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. To view the video webcast and for online condolences and
