Hartley James McHarg passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at home in Listowel surrounded by his family, in his 82nd year.
Born to Archie and Beatrice McHarg in Montreal, Quebec, Hartley spent his childhood in Listowel. Married to the love of his life, Marlene (Duncan) McHarg for 56 years. She passed away on December 6th, 2021. Together they raised their children and spent most of their life in Clifford.
Hartley had an entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for trying and learning new things. Purchasing the Clifford Feed Mill at the age of 23, he ran it from 1964 to 1975. Hartley drove tour buses all over North America for 30 years with Cherry Bus Lines. finally retiring at the young age of 75. He invested in various business endeavours over his life span and enjoyed keeping his mind sharp by investing on-line in more recent years.

Beloved Grandfather of Matthew Pizzey of Guelph, Becky Pizzey & David Lawson of Kitchener, Kyleena & Mike Bujold of Sudbury, Michael McHarg of Ottawa, Madison Gillis & Sam Kierinkiewicz of Josephburg, Alberta, and Liam Gillis of Mount Forest. Brother of Neil McHarg of Red Deer, Alberta, and brother-in-law of Doreen Seguin of Martintown, Doris & David Illman of Kitchener, Joyce & Bob Hansen of Wartburg, Brian Duncan of Milverton, Ken O’Grady of Listowel, Lois Duncan of Listowel, and Peter Geertsma of Brunner.
He was a beloved Uncle to many nieces and nephews, and cherished by many lifelong friends.
Predeceased by his wife, Marlene McHarg, sisters-in-law Velma Carruthers, Leone Duncan, Alma O’Grady, and Marj Geertsma, and brothers-in-law Glen Duncan, Ross Duncan, and Colin Duncan.
Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday, May 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again at church on Thursday, May 19th, one hour prior to his funeral service. Funeral service will be held at Knox United Church, Clifford on Thursday, May 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jenn Brown officiating. Reception to follow at the Clifford Community Hall.
