VAN DE LAAR, Harry John 1928 – 2022
Harry Van de Laar, born August 2, 1928 in Gemert , the Netherlands, died peacefully in Niagara-on-the-Lake on December 22, 2022 at the age of 94. His beloved wife for the past 65 years, Maria (nee Willy Van Helvert), was at his side when he passed away. Harry is survived by his five children – Peter (Tara), Dori Schwenker (Ken), Henry (Kim), Karen Hills and Paul. He also has 6 grandchildren – Jennifer Boehm (Kyle), Alex (Grace), Caitlyn Clow (Jarrod), Brittany (Dave), Mathew Schwenker (Alyssa) and Nick Schiavo. He is the brother of Frank (late Marlene, Mary), late John (Mary), late Bill (late Margo), Ted (late Donna), late Peter (Cathy) and late Maria.
Brother in law of late Joanne, (late Arie), late John (Margaret), Wilhelmina (late Joe), late Harry (Dorothy), late Ann, (late Ron), late Frank (Kathleen), Thea (late Paul), Tina (Del), late Bill (Ann), Ria (late Joe), late Maria, Pauline and Maggie. Harry was a hard-working, honest and gentle person who was staunchly dedicated to his family throughout his life. For more than 40 years, he demonstrated his keen passion for farming by gently cultivating and nurturing his small fruit farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Harry was also an avid car enthusiast who always wanted to ‘pop the hood’ on any automobile that pulled into his driveway. The family will receive guests on Tuesday December 27, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at MORGAN FUNERAL HOME at 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake. A mass will be held on Wednesday December 28, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 73 Picton Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake.
