The death of Harry Robert Stafford Cortes, husband of Catherine White-Cortes of Derby, NB, occurred on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at his residence at the age of 88. Born in Red Bank, NB, he was the son of the late Wilson Cortes and Ruby (Pleadwell) Cortes-Matchett. In his early years Harry worked at various jobs including driving truck, bus driving and working at Esson’s. Harry retired from the Department of Transportation as Operator/Supervisor of the Highways Department. He always enjoyed camping and travelling and after retirement he took up a hobby of wood working and built many beautiful pieces of furniture. He was truly a jack of all trades and if you needed something fixed, Harry was your man.
Besides his wife: Catherine, Harry will be greatly missed by: son: Robert “Bobby” (Lauris) of Parker Road, NB; daughter: Peggy of Miramichi, NB; faithful companion: Ginger; grandchildren: Melanie Brophy (Andy), Danny Cortes (Lydia), Meredith Augustine (Bryce Sturgeon) and Kerri-Ann Turnbull (Jason Kelly); great grandchildren: Pierce and Graham Brophy, Gabrielle and Victoria Cortes, Gia and Jaida Augustine and Emma Kelly as well as several nieces and nephews.
Harry will also be missed by: Catherine’s Family: Karen White-O’Connell (Peter), Carmel Anne White-Gloria (Paulo), Steven White (Karen) and Andrew White (Crystal) as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Harry is predeceased by: 1st wife: Gloria (Larsen) Cortes, sisters: Marjorie Hambrook (Edison), Elsie Simpson (James “Bud”) and brother: Roy (Betty); infant sister: Vera; grandson-in-law: Matthew Augustine.
The family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 2-6 PM. The funeral service will be held from the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 2 PM with Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight officiating. Burial will take place in the Derby United Cemetery.
