Known to so many as Oma, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2022.
Dedicated wife of the late Frederik DeVries for 60 years. Loving mother of Heidie Sabourin and husband Mike. Proud Oma (Grandmother in Dutch) of Amber Sabourin and husband Dennis McLeod and their children; Sarah Melanson and husband Matt and their children; Kelsie Sabourin and husband Jordan Bell; and Cory Sabourin. Adoring sister of Ali Weststrete, Clara Hesselink, and Berna Wienk. In addition to her daughter and grandchildren, she will be missed by her nieces and nephews, Fam Snijders-Brugman; Scott and Robyn Mountney and children; and Marc and Penny Mountney and children. She will also be missed by all of her family in the Netherlands.
If you were one of the lucky people to know Oma, you would have been welcomed by her infectious smile and embraced by her warm hug. She was so special and made an impact on so many people by giving each and every person she met her undivided attention and making sure they knew how wonderful they were. Always impeccably dressed with her hair styled and earrings on, Oma was an avid reader and talented gardener who was always up for anything. When not in her backyard or on her front porch, Oma loved to walk the neighbourhood with her dog, Lilly, and stopped to chat with everyone she came across. In addition to her own grandchildren, she was an Oma to so many wonderful neighbours.
Oma was a dedicated grandmother who loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren unconditionally. When her family moved from Woodstock to Windsor, she and Opa (Frederik DeVries) followed right behind, as the kids were their world. There were always meatballs, bacon and eggs, or potato pancakes on the menu and everyone was always invited. Selflessness and generosity were two traits that highlighted her personality. She helped everyone and expected nothing in return. Her heart was pure, her love was without limits, and her home was filled with warmth and kindness. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
