Obituary
Gwendolen Ethel Owen (née Weldrake) passed away peacefully on November 1, 2022 in Penticton BC at the age of 89 years.
Gwen was born on May 30, 1933 in Saskatoon SK, but grew up in Yorkshire, England, where she worked as a librarian. She visited Canada in 1962 for her sister’s wedding in Kamloops and met her future husband, Wilfrid (Barry) Owen, there. Gwen and Barry were married on December 29, 1962 and spent almost 60 years together.
She is remembered and sadly missed by her loving husband Barry, children Dave (Elmira), Carol Anne (Mark), and John (Christine), sister Anne Geernaert, and grandchildren Kimberley, Barry, Ada, and Maya. She was predeceased by her brother Charles, her parents Alfred and Edith, and her uncle and aunt Stan and Ida Ford.
Gwen sang in the choir at St. Paul’s United Church in Princeton for over 30 years and often lead services. She also acted in popular local plays.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Penticton Regional Hospital for their kind and compassionate care over the last 6 years.
