Gregory O’Soup 2022

Obituary
Gregory O’Soup passed away unexpectedly at Key First Nation, SK, on April 16, 2022, at the age of 38 years.
Gregory was born August 26, 1983, in Edmonton, AB, to Gregory and Ivy (nee Brass) O’Soup. His traditional name is AhKeeu Nee Tahque Nin, which means ‘growing from earth.’
He grew up and attended school in Edmonton, AB. Gregory worked as a labourer and obtained various training certificates, which included being trained as a Security Guard. Although he dreamed of furthering his education, he struggled with health barriers, lung complications, and shattered knees, which complicated his ability to pursue his dreams. Unfortunately, his health conditions also prevented him from engaging in many family activities.
Cultural traditions and his Christian faith were important to him. He also loved listening to music, playing his guitar, and singing. He enjoyed life and liked to travel, especially to Edmonton and Western Canada, including Vancouver.
Gregory was known for his respectful, friendly nature. With his outgoing personality, he made friends easily and enjoyed spending time with others. Using his keen sense of humour, he had many nicknames for people and especially liked to play jokes on his mom. He often teased his auntie and told her to “look in his Texas Hold’em book for better plays.”
He lived with his grandma, Matilda, and didn’t want to leave his Kokom. Throughout his life, he lived in Edmonton, Powel River, and Key First Nation, where he continued to reside until his passing on April 16, 2022.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gregory was predeceased by his (stillborn) daughter, Tiwda Frank O’Soup; sister, Lora-Jean Brass; nephew, Ian Camdan Brass; and grandmothers, Katherine O’Soup and Matilda Brass.
He is survived by his parents, Gregory O’Soup of Kamloops, BC, and Ivy O’Soup of Key First Nation, SK; daughter, Justice Amber Jade O’Soup; sisters, Cher Brass-O’Soup, Candace O’Soup, Whisper O’Soup, Liberty O’Soup, and Sunset O’Soup; brothers, OG O’Soup and Hombre O’Soup; nieces: Brooklyn O’Soup, Joria O’Soup, Oriana O’Soup, and Paris O’Soup; nephews, Richard Plante, Ethan Bryant, and Miguil O’Soup; grandson, Hudson Cote; and his partner, Edna Keshane; as well as his extended family and many friends.
A Wake Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2022, and the Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 22, 2022, both from the Saulteaux Plex Hall, Key First Nation, SK. Interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Key First Nation, SK.
