Russell, Grant Wayne
Passed away with members of his family present on Friday, August 12, 2022, in Hamilton at the age of 76.
Adoring husband to Judy Meertens for six years. Loving father to Pam (Greg) Smith, Tracy (Erik) Woerner, Gwen (Jason) Banton, Paul Russell, as well as Lisa (Jonathan) Cechetto and Amy (Leighton) James. Known as Grandpa or “Grantpa” to his 11 grandchildren Rebecca, Timothy, Nathaniel, Aiden, Samuel, Leah, Zachary, William, Micah, Abbe and Brooke, and his two great-grandchildren Khaleesi and Tyson.
Grant will be missed by elder sisters Faye Grinberg Rice (Peter Rice), Arlene (Roger) Lang; brothers-in-law Ray (Pat) Wolfe and Lorne (Janet) Wolfe, and by many cherished nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Darlene Russell (nee Wolfe), and his parents Austin and Gladys Russell.
Grant was a passionate educator, professor and mentor at the School of Accounting and Finance at the University of Waterloo where he was employed for 42 years. He brought his love of trains to his grandchildren and to those who shared his passion. Grant’s strong faith in the Lord served as a foundation and example to those around him.
A celebration of Grant’s life will be held in the coming weeks, please check his tribute page on the funeral home website for updates.
As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton, or the Russell Family Scholarship would be appreciated and can be made through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
