It is with great sadness and love that we share the news our beautiful Irish mom passed away on February 19, 2022.
She was born in Ballyshannon, Ireland and immigrated to Canada with her parents and sister, Fidelma, when she was a young adult. She always remained so proud of her Irish roots. She will be very fondly remembered by the many students’ lives she touched throughout her years as an English teacher in the Edmonton Catholic School District. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Central Lions Recreation Centre, the Alberta Society of Melanoma and tutoring ESL students. She was a loyal and dear friend to many. The role she most lovingly embraced is that of a mom and grandma.
She will be greatly missed by her children Siobhan Makowecki (Doug), Jamie Baer (Candise), Tara Gundry (Travis); grandchildren Kiera, Jacob, Brendan, and Megan; her sister Fidelma Murchie; sister-in-law Mary O’Malley Daly; close friend Dwaine Reinhart; and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Sarah O’Malley Daly and Patrick Daly and siblings, Peter Daly, Anthony O’Malley Daly, and Maeve “Laura” Hickson.
We find comfort in the eternal love we have for each other, our precious memories of our wonderful times spent together and knowing that she is now with our Heavenly Father. Her final resting place will be in Ireland with her loving family. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
We would like to thank Dr. John Walker at the Cross Cancer Institute and the staff at the Sturgeon Hospital for taking such good care of our mom.
