Gordon MUSHET
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gord Mushet on Thursday, September 1, 2022 in his 68th year at Kingston Health Sciences Centre. Gord was predeceased by his parents Robert and Margaret (nee Sparacino). Loving husband of Barbara for 36 years and cherished father of Brendan (Stephanie), Lesley (Justin), and Graham (Laura). Adoring grandfather of Jack, Cameron, and Remi. Dear brother of Cindy Bosi (John), and twin sister Shirley Mitrovich (Jerry). Gord will be remembered fondly by his nephews, nieces, many friends, neighbours, and coworkers.
Gord was born in Toronto and was working for his father’s bus line as a young man, during which time he met his wife Barbara. They had many adventurous dates on his motorcycle, and married in 1985. Gord was hired as a mechanic with Hydro One in Etobicoke shortly thereafter, and moved to Kingston in 1990 with Barb and young family to continue his career with Hydro One. Gord was known by friends, family, and colleagues as an exceptionally talented mechanic with many people calling on him for advice on virtually any piece of equipment. This was Gord’s passion, always a tool in his hand, and always late for dinner with the noise of the air compressor in the background. He spent many hours in the garage repairing and fabricating. Gord had a love of sailing and touring on his motorcycle. He spent countless hours maintaining and improving his boat and bike. In 2018, Gord had an “adventure of a lifetime” with his three good high school buddies, and toured Thailand for two weeks and he cherished those memories. He was also a natural artist, hand drawing greeting cards for his family as occasions arose, and also enjoyed playing his guitar. Gord was known to never quit a project once he started, no matter what obstacles got in his way. He showed the same determination when faced with his illness; he gave everything he had to overcome it. Gord was a very proud father and always made an effort to bond with his kids over their interests and passions. He was a great listener, and made those around him feel special. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at KGH for their continuing care for Gord over these past three years. A special thanks to the nurses at Providence Care Hospital and Dr. Baharnoori of Kingston Health Sciences Centre for her attention to Gord, and genuine kindness.
A celebration of life will be held at Bergeron Estate Winery, 9656 Loyalist Parkway, Bath on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 3pm – 5pm with words spoken at 4pm. The winery is approximately 15 minutes west of Bath.
Donations in memory of Gord may be made online to The University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (Neurology), Spinal Cord Injury Ontario, or Easter Seals of Ontario.
