Obituary
Glenda Long
North Sydney
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Glenda Marie Long, age 64 on Thursday June 2, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. It was a long and heartfelt battle with cancer where she had shown courage and strength. Glenda was a beloved wife, mother, nanny, sister, aunt, and friend.
Born in Sydney Mines on December 22, 1957, Glenda was the youngest child of the late Allan and Christine (MacPhee) Walker.
Glenda is survived by her husband and best friend, Paul Long; two sons Brian (Heidi) and Trevor (Lisa) and one daughter Crystal (Alex) Aldred; her grandchildren who were the light of her life, Elliot, Grace, Emerson, Spencer, Brooklyn, Luke, and baby Jack Walker. Glenda was very proud of her children and grandchildren. Glenda will be deeply missed by her sisters, Marguerite (James) Cullen, Diane (Neil) Hill, Shirley (Kevin) Doublett, Sylvia Walker (Frank) and brother Jackie (late Chris). She was the beloved sister-in-law of Garf (Louise), Simon (Mary), Carrie (late Tom) Boutilier, Betty (Sheldon) Burton, Louise (Al) Donnelly, Christine (Melvin) Devoe, Gerald (Sharon), Bernard (Cecilia), Larry (Judy), Phyllis (Steven) Clarke, Mary (Alec) Campbell, George (Elaine), Kenny (Sue). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and parents-in-law Lawrence and Lucy, Glenda is predeceased by her sisters Helen, Patsy and Kathryn; brothers Louie, David, and Keith and in-laws Mabel, Roselyn and Eric.
Glenda worked at the Cove Guest Home for 27 years until her retirement in 2018. She was a dedicated employee who loved her “work family”. Glenda, with her sunglasses on, enjoyed nothing more than going on shopping road trips with her sisters in search of another new pair of shoes. She loved being poolside on hot summer days with family and friends. She and Paul enjoyed playing darts, and in her younger years, Glenda was active playing floor hockey, bowling and softball. She also had a special place for her 3 best friends Louise, Mary and Brenda.
Paul and his children cannot express enough gratitude for the love and kindness shown to Glenda during her illness, from her sisters, her cousin Linda, nieces Charlene and Sherry, and all family and friends. A sincere thank you to the caring and compassionate Nurses, VON, Palliative Care and Cancer Center.
