Obituary of Gladys May Miehm
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gladys May Miehm (née Soehner) announce her passing in her 94th year on March 1, 2022. Gladys was surrounded by family as she peacefully embarked on life’s next journey.
Beloved wife of the late George Francis Miehm (1996), Gladys was fortunate to marry her second husband (also predeceased) Stephen Richard Vaughan later in life. Gladys was the last surviving child of Peter and Edith Soehner and was predeceased by her sister Isabel and brothers Sylvester, Gordon, Clifford, William and Norman.
Gladys is lovingly remembered by her sons Grant (Isolde) of Waterloo and Timothy (Sheila) of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and her much loved grandchildren Amanda (John) of Bermuda, Connor (Anne) of Arlington, Virginia and Julia (Ashley) of West Springfield, Massachusetts. Gladys also enjoyed the antics of her great grandchildren Cameron and Iris who always enjoyed GG’s silly jokes. Gladys is fondly remembered by a very special niece Joyce Straub and friend Bill Picard.
Gladys was a lifelong resident of Kitchener-Waterloo and an active participant in activities at the Westhill Retirement Residence. She enjoyed reading, knitting multiple sweaters for her entire family, walking, lawn bowling, bridge and various card games as well as travelling. We will dearly miss her keen sense of humour, quick wit, positive outlook and her tell-it-like-it-is approach.
The family thanks the Freeport Hospice team for their kindness and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo. A celebration of life will be held at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 322 East Avenue, Kitchener, on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. A reception in the church hall will follow.
Gladys’s family takes comfort in knowing that through her deep faith, she has now found everlasting peace.
