Peacefully at The Villages of Wentworth Heights, Hamilton on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in his 94th year. Loving & proud husband for over 57 years to his beloved late wife, Margaret Rose Piva (Whyte/McLaughlin) (2010). Dearest Father of five, Paul & Wendy, Catherine (Pretsell) & her deceased husband John (2012), Michael & Candy, predeceased by Dennis (2014) & Kim & David. Fun-loving Grandfather to 10, Ace (Paul Jr.) & Nicole, Nikki & Shawn, Thomas & Stephanie, Tyler Pretsell, Eddy & Lindsay, Christopher & Mindy, Brian, Joshua, Zachary & Jarod. Proud Great-Grandfather to 7, Aislyn, Brayden, Nate, Kara & Domenic, Rowan & Morley. Eldest brother to Lino & Ausma, Sylvio & Jenny (pred 1999) & his only sister, Sister Theresa (Shirley) Piva, Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Motherhouse, Hamilton where she celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 2014 and now resides at the Sisters of St. Joseph’s, London. Brother-in-law to David Whyte & Joan & Marilyn Mecke (pred) & Gord (pred). Also predeceased by his parents, Rizieri (Jimmy (1987) & Amalia (2000), David & Catherine Whyte, young nephews and many other relatives & life-long friends. Both Gino & Margaret shared a strong faith, actively involved in any & all they could do as parishioners at The Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Hamilton since 1966 along with Holy Family, St. Eugene’s & St Margaret Mary’s Churches. At Blessed Sacrament Parish, Gino helped as an Usher graduating to Head Usher & was honoured to be the Cross-Bearer for numerous Funerals along with volunteering at Church Raffles, Bazaars & Bingos, while Margaret was the school secretary for decades and was involved in preparation of the weekly Church Bulletins, The Legion of Mary, The Catholic’s Womens League & sang in the Choir. Gino has been an active Brother Knight with The Knights of Columbus since age 24 and was hands-on at so many Lobsterfest & Italian night social events, ticket sales and ensuring that all of his family & so many friends were there to share in the fun. Gino was an active member of Sackville Hill Senior’s. Born a proud “Caybretoner, raised in his early years in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, re-visiting the East Coast countless times, along with many other travels around the world. He also took pride in his Italian heritage. As a Licensed Mechanic at a young age, Gino owned and operated a few locations in Hamilton and also worked at other stations for many years before working as an Emission’s Inspector for the CAA, after which he retired. The family will receive friends at PX Dermody Funeral Home @ Upper Gage & Mohawk Rd. on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 2-4 & 7-9. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at The Most Blessed Sacrament Church @ Upper Gage & Fennell Ave. @ 10 a.m. on Friday, September 23,2022. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Ancaster. The family thanks all the staff at Meadowlands, Ancaster & The Villages of Wentworth Heights for their care & support of Gino while he was there. As simple and quiet, gentle, honest, hard-working, fun-loving man our Dad was, he had a huge impact on our lives and we thank him for that. Rest in peace Dad in the loving arms of your Margaret for your eternal life together in Heaven.
