Gilbert Johnson went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday July 30, surrounded by his loving family.
Gil was born on May 10, 1936 in Port Elgin. Oldest child of Rev. Gordon Johnson and Ethel Johnson (Fiddler). Gil’s family ministered in many churches throughout his childhood before settling in the Stratford area in his teenage years. Gil worked for Loblaws for his entire career. Starting at the age of 15 sweeping floors, to moving through management and then on to night crew before retiring in 1997. Gil married Beatrice Hesse in 1955 and they enjoyed 56 happy years together before her passing in 2012.
Gil will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley Johnson. His Daughters Cheryl Renecker and Karen (Tom) Graydon. His 3 Granddaughters Christina Kropf, Kerrilyn (Matt) Sawatzky and Kaylene (Justin) Weil and his 3 Great grandchildren Noah, Jacob and Kaylea Kropf.
Visitation will take place at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday, August 3, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment at St. Andrews Cemetery.
