Obituary of Geraldine Violet Browne
Geraldine Violet Browne
December 19, 1934 – March 10, 2022
Good night and God bless.
They were the last words we heard every night when she tucked us into bed as children. And they were the last words that ever escaped her lips. Our mother is gone from our presence, but she will live forever and ever in our hearts. She taught us to love. And that is what rises above all.
In her lifetime, she was a teacher, a salesperson, a fisherman. A daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend. Her proudest title was matriarch to sixty-seven of her direct descendants, and their spouses and partners, and she could list them in order in a heartbeat. Eleven children, twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren.
How we will miss the litany she ran through when she misplaced one of our names from the tip of her tongue. Marie, Sheila, Jerry, Leo, Annabelle, Geraldine, Jeanette, Violet, Brenda, Johnny, Lori. She has gone into the loving arms of Daddy (John Browne), her son Leo, her baby daughter, and her grandchildren Jonathan and Elijah.
How we will miss the softest bosom to lean back into when she ponytailed our hair. The softest place to fall when we scraped our knees or bruised our hearts.
We are forever grateful to Renee, Debbie, and all the staff and her friends at Alderwood Estates, especially Maddie and Verley, who made her last two years with us some of her happiest. Where she dressed up for Halloween for the first time, where she acted in plays for the first time, where she learned to belly-dance.
A special thank you and undying gratitude to the nurses and all staff of 7 West St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, who allowed Mom to live her last days with dignity in their compassionate care. We love you, Mom. We will miss you forever.
Good Night and God Bless
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Geraldine
