Obituary
On April 20th 2022, we lost our star. Gerald was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, sibling, uncle, friend, leader, counselor, educator, coach, and positive role model to many. He left us too soon but lived his life to the fullest every day. He is survived by Cheryl, his wife of 40 years, his children Amanda (Luc) and Brady (Carla) and his two grandchildren, Théo and Camille. He also leaves behind his siblings Mark (Patricia), Claude (Lynne), Anne-Marie (Bill) Greg, Neil (Sheri), Conrad (Jo), Ellen-Louise (Henryk) and his siblings-in law, Rob and Lisa (Mike). Gerald continues to live on through his family members including various nieces and nephews.
During his 65 years of life Gerald seized each day and found joy in his life and work. He worked for 38 years as a teacher both in the classroom, in the gym, and as a school counselor. He related to people and listened with an open mind, whether you were 5 or 85. Gerald had a passion for the outdoors and encouraged others to get outside. He walked to work at any temperature. He taught his own children and many more how to ski, swim, canoe, run, bike and play. He also enjoyed and supported many aspects of the Arts community. Gerald valued family above all and especially enjoyed spending time with his young grandchildren.
Gerald lived an exemplary healthy lifestyle. Recently diagnosed with lymphoma, his treatments were interrupted with more complications. The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba for their initial care. As well, we wish to acknowledge the compassionate efforts of the dedicated Brandon Intensive Care Unit during his last weeks.
A Celebration of Life will occur on Sunday, May 1 at Westworth United Church at 2:30 pm. (proof of vaccination and masks required) Gathering with refreshments will follow at Sir John Franklin Community Centre to open at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
