George Dutcher, of Miramichi, New Brunswick passed away on February 23rd, 2022. Born on October 30, 1954 in Newcastle, New Brunswick, he was the son of late Gertrude Dutcher and William “Red” Dutcher.
George met the love of his life, Sharon, when they were 18 years old. They married on June 30, 1983. George loved and adored Sharon with all of his heart. Anyone who knows George and Sharon admired their love for one another. They had a mutual respect and understanding of one another that was unmatched by most. He was a devoted husband and eventually, father and grandfather.
George and Sharon have two children, Ashley Dutcher (Pietro Lovisa) and Terry Dutcher (Sara MacDonald). George was their biggest supporter throughout all of their endeavours. He never missed a game, recital and could be frequently seen with his own children and all of the neighborhood children on his four wheeler, sliding or skating at the pond.
Eventually, George became a grandfather to Ashley’s and Pietro’s son, Elliott. He could not have been more in love and proud of his sweet little grandson and Elliott, in turn, absolutely adored his grandfather. To Elliott, there was no one in the world that compared to his Grampy. Grampy, he often told Ashley, was his best friend.
George will also be missed by his son, Jason Vickers (Guylaine, Madison and Tristan).
George was predeceased by his mother, Gertrude, and father, Red, his brother, John Dutcher, his sisters Joan Blacquier and Judy Dutcher, his father-in-law Miller Somers, brother-in-law, Van Somers, sister-in-law, Judy Burns, his nephew, Bruce Colten and niece, Michaela MacDonald.
He will be forever missed by his sisters Marjorie Colten (Terry), Sadie Craig (Billy, Todd and Nicole), Carol Fleiger (Harold, Jeremy and William), mother-in-law, Ruby Somers, sister-in-laws, Darlene Somers (Blake, Rebecca, Holly, Gabriel and Michael), Margie Power (Shawn, Joshua, Rhys, Shelby and Ryan), his brother-in-laws Ronnie Somers (Stacey Somers) and Terry Somers (Donna, Emily and Jonathan). His nephews, Chris Burns, Tom Burns and Andrew Burns.
George loved being active. He was a great lover of the outdoors, camping, four wheeling fishing and of course walking. George could be seen walking around the Miramichi every day of the week. If you saw George waking around the City, he’d always have a big smile on his face and give you a friendly “How she going today?” or a wave, of course. George worked for the City of Miramichi for 45 years. His friendly, helpful and outgoing personality connected him with so many people throughout his travels. There’s hardly a person in the City George didn’t know and even if he didn’t know you, that didn’t stop him from giving you a “beautiful day, isn’t it?” One thing is for certain, the pools of Miramichi will never be up to snuff again with George’s passing.
In memory and celebration of George’s life, there will be a visitation held at Bells Funeral Home on Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
