It is with great sorrow, we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather Gary Allan MacGregor on August 3rd, 2022. Gary was born on June 16th, 1939, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to Allan and Sarah MacGregor. He graduated from New Glasgow High School in 1956, then attended St. Xavier University and later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. On November 28th, 1958, Gary married his lifelong love, Isabel Sim of Westville, Nova Scotia. Together they had five children. Athletics was a passion of Gary’s. He was the captain of his high school basketball team and was also involved in gymnastics, track & field, and baseball. His love of sports continued through adulthood coaching youth sports. Golfing, reading, fishing, camping, cooking, vintage cars, and traveling were some of his many lifelong passions. Gary was a firm believer in giving back to the community and did through his involvement with the Masonic Lodge, Kinsmen, as well as Saskatchewan Roofing Contractors Association. Gary will be forever loved and missed by wife Isabel, their children, Mark, (Debbie), John, Karen (Elliott), David (Joy), Blair (Karen). Gary’s heart belonged to his eight grandchildren Brayden, Kirsten (Dean), Reagan, Kaylee, Sydney, Nolan, and Marisa. Gary is survived by his two brothers of Donald (Karen) and Ian (Bella) MacGregor, Florence Bishop, Betty and Dave Latimer, Joanne Sim and their families. He was predeceased by his parents (Allan and Sarah), his brothers Allister, along with his partners in crime and best friends Hughie Sim and Murray Bishop. Gary will always be remembered by his many Barbadian friends as the unofficial Mayor of Dover Beach.
The Celebration of Life will be held at the Edwards Family Centre on August 21, 2022, between 1:30 and 4:30 pm with a short program at 2:00 pm. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed by the link at the top of this page at the time of the service. Donations in memory of Gary can be sent to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or SCAT Street Cat Rescue Saskatoon. Arrangements have been entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home.
