Frederick (Ed) Hickey died unexpectedly but peacefully at his home on Nov. 3, 2022, at age 68. Ed was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Left with broken hearts are his children Josh (Sarah), Jared (Keli) and Emma (Colin), and grandchildren Cecilia, Callum, Trinity, Rowen, Serena, Scarlett, and a new granddaughter expected next month whom he was eagerly waiting to meet.
Ed will be forever missed by siblings Sheila (Tom), Tom (Theresa), Terry (Jenny), Beth, David, Bernetta (Tom) and Bernadette, his many nephews and nieces and a plethora of friends. Ed was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Rita Hickey, brother Frank Hickey, nephew Justin Hickey and brother-in-law Al Slaney.
Ed was a proud father and grandfather. He was quick to share stories about his grandchildren and all of his children’s accomplishments. He was always looking forward to his next visit with them. He was blessed with many gifts and his friends were an integral part of his life. His children are grateful for the many friends and family in his life who took time to visit and care for him.
Ed was a quiet soul who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved the great outdoors, automobiles, hunting, and watching his favourite team the “Mighty” Montreal Canadiens — as he commonly referred to them. He took every opportunity to enjoy his cabin with friends and family. His kind, gentle demeanour and penchant for doing small, random acts of kindness made him so well loved by all who knew him.
Ed had an extensive career working with heavy equipment and spent a significant portion of his life working in Canada’s North before working with the Town of Clarenville. Having lived in Clarenville for 32 years, and having worked with the Town for 20 years, “Hickey” was a well-known and well-respected member of the community. He will be missed by many.
As per Ed’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at Fewer’s Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed’s memory to the Clarenville Area SPCA to honour his love of one of his best friends, Luke.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Frederick “Ed Hickey
