Reid, Frank William 1923 – 2022
Frank William Reid left us peacefully Friday, February 25th at the age of 99 to be with his oldest son Larry as he has been praying to do for several months.
He is survived and missed by his wife of almost 74 years Eva, his children Astrid (wife of Larry), Judy, Bob (Kim), Gail Camilleri (late George), Ken (Cheryl), Greg (Arya), Donna (Bill) Bailey, Paul (Heather), Reg (Sherry). He is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Our hero, Frank, served in WWII as a dispatch rider in Italy. Shortly after returning home he married the love of his life and bought a house in Effingham which he slowly expanded as did their family. He was employed at GM for 38 years and they moved to Port Colborne where he pursued his love of fishing and enjoyed his 3 mile walks every morning. We always knew not to interrupt Mom and Dad from 11-12 as they were busy watching their favourite show, Price is Right.
Retirement years were also spent traveling to Florida in the winter months and then trips to Mexico and Cuba with the family.
Family meant everything to him and we are left with some wonderful memories. Sunday drives, camping, swimming in and skating on the quarry and roaming around our 6 acres when we weren’t picking strawberries and selling them at the end of our driveway.
The best memories are the campfires we had with Dad playing banjo and Larry playing guitar, even listening to songs he made up himself, our favourite being the Washing Machine song.
He touched so many lives with his kindness, stories and witty sense of humour.
We would like to extend special thanks to everyone that helped with his care, especially his new best friend Lorie, and the staff at Hotel Dieu Shaver.
We welcome anyone who would like to celebrate Frank’s long and interesting life at Amici’s Banquet and Conference Centre on Saturday, March 5th from 1- 4.
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in honour of his son Larry or the charity of your choice.
