Lauinger, Frank (Franziskus) Hugo
Passed away peacefully with his children by his side at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the age of 85 (just 3 weeks shy of his 86th birthday).
Loving father of Frank (Anita), Tim (Jasmine), and Cindy (Marvin). Proud Opa of Nicole (Conlan), Mathew, Rachel (Gabriel), Kirsten and Tim Jr. Oom (Uncle) to a number of nieces and nephews both in the Owen Sound area and in the Netherlands.
Frank is predeceased by his parents, sisters, brother and his first wife Marita.
Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on October 13, 1936, where he and his family moved around a lot.
With the need to explore and see new places, he immigrated to Canada in June of 1960 with his new bride, Marita. They settled in Owen Sound, Ontario to be closer to Marita’s sister and started a family of their own. Five years later the new family moved to Burlington, where he began his life as a businessman.
Originally working out of the family home repairing televisions and radios, he soon moved into an actual storefront. He had a knack for running a business and was a successful businessman and entrepreneur, at one point running a number of Audio & TV store locations.
He was well liked and respected by his employees, suppliers, other businesses and other competitors as well.
He was heavily involved in the International Village BIA downtown Hamilton.
He loved to socialize and had a large circle of friends. He loved to throw and attend large parties and was especially known for a family corn roast held every August at the family home.
He was also a certified scuba diver and travelled extensively to tropics to dive and meet his need for travel.
His main passion was sailing, especially after retirement. He was an avid sailor and was long time member of the Macassa Bay Yacht Club and the Hamilton Power & Sail Squadron where he was a Junior Navigator and honourary Port Captain & MAREP Officer.
His dream of sailing on his own boat from Hamilton to the tropics was his only bucket list item not checked off, but did come close by assisting a friend to sail his boat from Florida to Bahamas
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, October 13th from 7-9 pm at the Macassa Bay Yacht Club, 80 Harbour Front Drive, Hamilton, Ontario.
