Frank A. Jezzard, beloved husband of the late Jean Jezzard of Reston, Manitoba passed away at Willowview Personal Care Home, Reston Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the age of 98 years.
Born on the farm at Linklater on August 17, 1923 to Ernest & Grace Jezzard Frank was the second youngest of one brother and seven sisters. He started school at Prairie Rose and finished his education in Reston. Frank grew up in hard times and had to work hard for a living from an early age. On April 12, 1949 he married Jean Dooley of Lauder and they farmed the home farm until 1998 when he retired and he and Jean moved to Reston. After Jean’s death in 2015 Frank moved to the Alstone Lodge in Reston where he resided until fall of 2020 when he moved to the Willowview. The Alstone Lodge became an extension to his family, many good times and happy hours shared with the residents there.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Carol Hunter of Kenton, son Terry (Dallas) of Fort Saskatchewan, son Murray (Donna) of Elkhorn; grandchildren Jeff (Sarah) of Fargo, Krista & Travis of Virden, Chelsea & Paddy of Virden; and great-grandchildren Aiden, Shae, Hanna, Avery, Jax, and Oliver. Also remembered by sisters in-law Bud Laurent of Carnduff, Dot Burgess of Brandon, and brother-in-law Joe Dooley of Winnipeg, and many special nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his loving wife Jean, brother Bill; sisters Mabel, Edith, Lil, Ethel, Edna, Joyce, and Marion; brothers-in-law Jim & Ernie Dooley; sisters-in-law Mary Mossop and Mabel Wilson; and by his son-in-law Clare Hunter.
Frank drove a school bus for 25 years and developed a special rapport with the kids. He was a devoted member of St. John’s Anglican Church and in later years Reston United Church. He served as secretary-treasurer for Prairie Rose school for 16 years and also held a position on the Manitoba Pool Elevator board at Linklater for several years. He enjoyed fastball and curling. He played fastball with the Linklater Links for many years and later was also a member of the Ewart ball team for several years. After retiring to Reston, he participated in senior curling for many years. Farming both grain and livestock were Frank’s passion in life. He devoted his life to the farm. Ball tournaments were the only time out from the farm work. He loved outdoors, watching the animals and birds in their habitat. He lived his life to the fullest.
Frank’s unique sense of humour gained him many friends, both young and old. In general, he enjoyed people and socializing with the morning and afternoon coffee crowd at Dennis County.
Dad and Grandpa can be defined in part by his sense of honour, and his understanding of right and wrong. He was a loyal man, loyal to his family, loyal to his friends and loyal to the values that he earned from his parents. He was a generous and kind man, always putting others first. Friends were very important to him and respected. He loved all his family and always treated them fairly and nothing made him happier than when the whole family got together. He was very proud of his grandchildren and the life they chose and later the great-grandchildren when they too started playing ball and hockey!
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the RES Centre in Reston, Manitoba. Interment will be in Reston Cemetery.
