Frances Dubois
October 30, 1947- March 24, 2022
The world lost a shining presence and our family lost its rock on March 24, 2022, when Frances Sue Elaine Dubois of Thunder Bay passed away at the age of 74 after a short but courageous battle against cancer. Her devoted family were by her side before, during, and after her short battle.
She was delighted in spending time with family and friends. Her favorite time of year were the holidays. She would spend hours baking and loved hearing how much everyone enjoyed her sweet treats. She always took advantage of the holidays to spend time with the family and talk about all the great family adventures. Frances loved helping her children out whenever possible. If she had to get her hands dirty planting flowers or simply supporting them financially, it did not matter to her, she was there to help. She was loved by all who knew her. She was a true lady and displayed this to her family and friends. She was considered the family Matriarch. She was a strong woman who was highly respected by her family and to whom the family turned to for advice and help.
Besides baking, Frances loved the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Blue Jays. She would not miss an opportunity to sit and watch her favorite teams play and yell at the screen when they were not doing well. She would also make it known to everyone as to how well the Jets were doing compared to the Leafs.
The word most people use to describe Frances is “kind”. She was also generous, cheerful, funny, smart, witty, sentimental, enthusiastic, and an extremely talented flower arranger who often found a way to create some amazing floral arrangements for anyone in the family. Two values summarize Frances’ life very well, the first being family. She loved her immediate and extended family very deeply and placed high value on loyalty. The second is hard work. She understood what it meant to toil and that not everything in life is easy. She took great satisfaction in earning a paycheck for her diligence.
She was a tiny little thing with a heart bigger than the whole city of Thunder Bay. Frances had a sharp wit and a keen insight. She chose to always be kind and up-lifting. Our family would describe her as “a wonderful mother, mentor and friend,” and her coworkers would say she was “a joy, and a total pro, to work with,” and “a ray of sunshine”. She was the type of person that found it hard to sit still for very long and always need something to keep her busy. Her favorite job was owning her restaurant in Winnipeg, Brio. She loved helping in the kitchen, but she thrived interacting with customers. She always enjoyed taking a few minutes to say hello or just watching everyone enjoying the food and atmosphere.
Born in Mornington Twp, on October 30, 1947, to Mackinnon (Mac) and Charlotte Davidson. She had a big family of 7 and was always getting into trouble according to her mother. She worked hard on the farm but still manage to find time to get in mischief with her siblings.
Frances is survived by her children Michael (Brenda) Perks, Lori (Arthur) Goch, Loni (Myron) Rudnicki, Randy (Priscilla) Dubois, her grandchildren Joel and Rhonda Perks, Kristine Chabot (Nicholas Beaudry), Kayla Chabot (Justin Maitland), Tyler Rudnicki (Serena Van Dyk), Aaron Rudnicki (Julia Izidoro dos Santos), Damian and Olivia Perks, step grandchildren Michael and Linda Goch, and step great-grandchildren Jersey and Leila Delski, Gracie and Miikael Goch as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a countless number of friends.
Predeceased by her parents Mackinnon and Charlotte Davidson, sisters Donna, Patricia, brother Elwood, and daughter Rhonda.
Survived by siblings Leona Konings, Dale Davidson, and Janette Martin.
Survived by love of the life and father to her four children, Arthur Dubois.
Survived by partner and best friend Perry Clark.
Family would like to thank the following caregivers that helped the family go through this difficult time. Dr. Sun, Dr. Mohammea Ibrahim, Dr. Bezanson, N.P. Aaron Medd, Dr. Migay, and the Palliative Care staff. Big thank you to Paramed staff and extra thanks to Steven.
Our family can’t properly express our gratitude to everyone that sent food, flowers, fruit baskets, cards and condolences. We know if our mother could have seen all the outpouring of love she would have been extremely touched. Our family would like to take this time to sincerely thank everyone.
At this time the family will not be holding a celebration of life in accordance with our mothers wishes. She was an avid animal lover and has requested that donations in Frances’s memory, be made to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
