Flora Reitman Rabinovitch (Née Buchbinder)
Peacefully surrounded by her loved ones, at home in Seattle, Washington on April 7 at the age of 95. Wife of the late John Reitman and the late Dr. Seymour Rabinovitch. Inspirational and loving mother and mother-in-law of Howard and Ramona Reitman, Ellen Reitman, and the late Jayne Reitman and their families. Cherished grandmother of Keith (Casey) and Dina Cummings, John-Elio and Woobie, and Isaac Reitman. Proud great grandmother of Megan, Nathan, and Mac Cummings. Grammy of Marilyn, Allison, Rachel, Jeremy, Rebecca, Peter, Adriana, Madeline, and Shannon (Rabinovitch family). Dear sister and sister-in-law of Mary and the late William Buchbinder, the late Rusty and the late Paul Rossner. Sister-in-law of the late Louis, the late Sam, the late Dora and the late Jack Reitman and their families. She will be missed by Peter, Ruth, Judith, and Frank Rabinovitch and their families.
Flora was born in New Jersey to a loving family where she was free to develop her artistic talents as a young girl. A BFA graduate of Ohio State, Flora moved to NYC in the 40’s and worked as a pattern designer for McCalls. In the 50’s she married John Reitman and raised their three children in Montreal where she flourished as a mother and as an artist. After being widowed, in the 80’s Flora married Dr. B. Seymour Rabinovitch and moved to Seattle where she became an honoured patron of the arts and an accomplished 20th century American jeweller. Flora’s work is included in collections at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Smithsonian, the Tacoma Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Flora pursued each stage of her life with complete commitment. She lived her life fully and appreciated all that Life and Love had to offer. We will all miss her as a great matriarch of our family.
