Evelyn Marcon Saturday November 19th 2022 avis de deces

It is with deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Marie Marcon, formerly Sister Celestine, at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, on Saturday, November 19, with her loving family by her side.
Evelyn was born and raised in the East End of Fort William and would frequently refer to her early childhood years with fondness and love. While quiet and unassuming in nature, she would often be seen playing baseball, hockey or any sport with the neighborhood friends. That led to her first job as a park supervisor during the
summer holidays. Upon graduating from the commercial program at St. Patrick’s High School, Evelyn was soon employed at the Department of Highways. However, her stay there was short after announcing to her parents, her desire to enter the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph. At 18 years of age, she left Thunder Bay for North Bay to begin her 30 year journey as Sister Celestine. Her new life as a nun found her teaching high school for many years and then upon receiving her Masters Degree in Spirituality and Counseling as well as a Masters Degree in Theology and Pastoral Counseling, she embraced her new career guiding and advising many individuals along the way. As a tribute to her leadership, she was awarded the Canadian Merit Award for outstanding woman of the year and the Distinguished Graduate Award, for developing leaders in the church and world. Returning to Thunder Bay in 2008, Evie quickly reconnected with family and friends while continuing her counseling career. Central to her life was her strong faith and commitment to her church and family. An active member of St.Margaret’s parish, she served the church as a lector and a Eucharistic Minister. She worked diligently as a volunteer with the Development and Peace Organization and the CWL. Evelyn was predeceased by her loving parents, Angelo and Chella; her brother Val and sister-in-law, Patricia (Black); her nieces Suzanne Lacaria and Tammy Collins and great nephew Shawn Perring. She is survived by brother Louis Marcon (Delores) and her sister Margie (David) Bragnalo. Evelyn cherished her time and interaction with her nieces and nephews and their families: Christian, Kelly, Frank, Michael, Tommy, Evelyn, Jodi and Keri. She always looked forward to the family suppers and celebrations while also enjoying golfing with the Northern Lights Girls and her monthly card group. These were all positive activities that enriched her life. Funeral services for Evelyn Marcon will be held on Saturday, November 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Church, celebrated by Rev Ciaran Donnelly. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Development and Peace Organization, Thunder Regional Hospital or a charity of your choice.
The words of Micah formed the guiding principle for Evelyn’s life:
“To Act Justly; To Love Tenderly; To walk humbly with my God.”
