Eva Ethel Campbell August 31 1935

Obituary
On Sunday, June 5, 2022, our dear mother, Eva Ethel Campbell passed away in Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 86 with her children by her side. On August 31, 1935, in Crystal Beach, Ontario, Eva was born the youngest of nine children to Henry and Trijntje (Catherine) Westhouse, emigrated from the Netherlands. Eva was predeceased by all her siblings but is fondly remembered by many extended family and friends. Also predeceased by her loving husband Peter of 56 years on April 16, 2011, Eva lived eleven more years to see their family grow in number. We are comforted by the promise that Eva has been reunited with the love of her life, Peter, and with her Lord and Saviour whom she faithfully served.
Eva will be deeply missed by her family: Daughter Wendy (Mark) Montcalm with their family Leigh (Cam) Stutters and children Shea, Misha, Roman, Jude; Daniel (Brittni) Burns, and children Bodhi, Brogen and close family member Craig Burns; Daughter Linda (Kevin) Willms (Arlo Fehr, deceased) with their family Matthew Fehr, Evan Fehr, Codie Willms (Quinten), Zachary Willms (Hannah); Daughter Beth (Garth) Dirksen with their family Blake (Britt) Dirksen and children Beckett, Brenner; Whitney (Luke) Dunstall and children Eleanor, Pearl; Bailley (Nick) Ferguson and children Ezekiel, Keziah, Isabelle, Ezra; Sydnee (Carson) Milligen and children Lyra, Dara; Son Keenan (Carmen Etchart) Campbell.
Raised in a village of farms, cottages and amusements along the shores of Lake Erie, Eva’s fondest memory of those early years was spending summers on the beach diving for coins under the ferry pier. It seemed that Eva lived a carefree life working at the amusement park, enjoying big band music at the dance hall, going to movies, following the fashion of the stars and spending fun times with close friends. Shortly after moving into the area for work, Peter noticed Eva and won her heart. They were married in Crystal Beach on September 3, 1955.
From 1955 to 1975 Eva and Peter lived in neighbourhoods in Toronto, Timmins, Ridgeway, and Mississauga, Ontario and a short time in Tsawwassen BC in 1972. Eva made lasting friendships, pursued many interests and hobbies, created happy times for her family, shared in church ministries and enjoyed relaxing summer getaways, frequently popping in on friends and relatives, and taking a keen interest in all her nieces and nephews.
It was in 1975 that Eva and Peter moved to the Okanagan and took to balancing life as business owners and orchardists while raising teenagers in Winfield. Eva worked with Peter in various businesses in Kelowna which then became home and where they continued to share happy times with their growing family; their grandchildren and great-grandchildren were Eva’s delight.
In their retirement, Eva and Peter traveled extensively: to Ontario, Holland, throughout BC and as far away as the Arctic Ocean. Sailing along the Pacific Coast with Keenan and Carmen in their sailboat and taking road trips in their Westphalia van were highlights of those years. Together they formed deep bonds with many cherished friends. Eva volunteered at Village at Mill Creek providing support and company to a dear friend with Alzheimer’s and then other residents for several years. She continued to attend Evangel Tabernacle, and through the women’s group, knitted hundreds of baby booties sent with other provisions to support a Guatemalan mission.
The family wish to acknowledge and thank Eva’s doctors and nurses for their care, the IHA care aides for their patient home support, the program staff of Adult Day Care and all those tending to Eva’s needs at Spring Valley Care in her final months as a resident there.
Friends are welcome to join a Beachside Picnic Celebration of Eva’s Life planned for later in August. Details to come. Please consider a donation in Remembrance of Eva to Alzheimer’s research or to a mission organization of your choice. Arrangements are with Everden Rust Funeral Services where condolences may be sent by visiting www.everdenrust.com
