Eugene “Gene”‘s Obituary
SCOTT, Eugene “Gene” Lealand – 83 of Lockeport passed away peacefully on Thursday April 14, 2022 in the Queens General Hospital Liverpool with his daughter Kim by his side. Born in Lockeport on April 30, 1938 he was a son of Calvin and Pearl (Wamback) Scott.
Gene retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after 25 years of service. When returning home he worked as Postmaster at Lockeport, Port Mouton andShelburne. He retired from that position and then worked for the Harbour Authorities for Lockeport area.
He was a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 80 in Lockeport where he held offices of President and Treasurer. He was also a dedicated Lions Member holding office as Treasurer. He took pride in taking the lead to organize the annual Lockeport Veterans Day program. Gene was a self-taught painter and shared his love of art by teaching classes to the community on a weekly basis. Gene was a member of Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada where he spent many hours at the Kennel with incoming dogs and opened up his home to many ex-racers. During his working career he was a projectionist in Shelburne, Liverpool and Ontario movie theaters and spent many hours dragging his children to matinee’s and late shows. He was an avid reader, enjoyed movies especially “Westerns”, and photography and taking pictures all over the Lockeport area of the ocean. Eugene was highly intelligent and well versed man in many subjects. He possessed a beautiful Tenor voice which he used in the United Church choir and enjoyed singing with his long-time friend Monte Andrews. He spent many hours at the legion with his friends Monte Andrews and Pearly MacKenzie swapping stories and telling jokes.
Survived by his loving wife Anita, children; Kim(Pete), Lori (Wade), Kelly (Mike), stepsons; Clayton (Samantha), Matthew (Heidi), and Steven, step-daughter, Allison MacKenzie and sister Carolyn (Wallace), sister-in –law, Winnie. Grandchildren; Cory, Scott, Michelle, Kevin, Arron, Makayla, Joel, Alexandria and Bailey, great-grandchildren; Lochlan and Averie Mae.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his siblings; Julia, Joanne, Russel and brother Calvin (in infancy).
Arrangements are under the direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Lockeport. A visitation will be held Tuesday April 19th from 7-9 pm at the Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Lockeport. Memorial service will take place Wednesday April 20th at 2:00 pm from the United Church in Lockeport. Burial to follow in the Rockland cemetery. Family, friends and Legion members are invited to attend a reception at Lockeport Legion Branch 80 immediately after the service.
