On April 18, 2022, at the ripe old age of 95, dad left us to explore hiking and riding trails he had not yet seen.
Bryan was born on March 9, 1927, in Perry Siding to his mother Margaret and his father Ellis. He was the oldest sibling to his three sisters. They spent their childhood mostly in the Slocan Valley and in many smaller Kootenay communities where his dad found work. Most of Bryan’s working career was spent as a welder for the Department of Highways at their Rossland repair shop.
Dad met the love of his life, a young girl from Scotland, Jeanie MacPherson on August 23, 1951, and he was so smitten with her that they were married on October 26, 1951. They had two children, Dianne in 1953 and Bryan Jr. in 1966. They lived in Trail, Rossland and then Riondel and Ootischenia after retirement. After Jeanie’s passing on April 18, 2009 (13 years to the day prior to his passing), Bryan lived in Castlegar and then moved to Trail in 2017 and lived on his own until January of this year.
He was a nature lover who couldn’t get enough of walking, skiing, car trips and riding his ATV well into his 90’s before taking his mobility scooter to places they have never been!
Bryan is survived by his special friend Teresa Slater, daughter Dianne (Wes) Robson, son Bryan Flynn Jr., youngest sister Colleen Bailey, brother-in-law Ron Laybourne, grandsons Mike (Barb) Patt, Frank Patt, great granddaughter Savannah (Ryan) Sharp, great-great grandson Mason Sharp and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Jeanie, sisters Phoebe Laybourne and Hazel Wallace and brothers in law Don Wallace and Doug Bailey.
As per Bryan’s wishes there will be no service, a family burial of his and Jeanie’s urns will take place at a future date in Nelson.
Gwen Ziprick of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
If you desire, donations in Bryan’s name can be made to the SPCA at 124 Heritage Way, Castlegar, V5K 2H4.
