Obituary of Ethlyn Mae Murray
Mrs. Ethlyn Mae Murray of Penobsquis died peacefully at the Mill Cove Nursing Home on January 16, 2022, at the age of 90. She was born in Penobsquis on December 20, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Archibald and Ella (Perry) Robinson, and the wife of the late R. Clifford Murray. Ethlyn was the last member of her immediate family.
Ethlyn married the love of her life, and next-door neighbour, Clifford Murray in July, 1954, and spent the next 62 years together in Penobsquis, raising their family.
Ethlyn was a schoolteacher, working at schools in Moncton, and after raising her family, resumed teaching at Penobsquis and Sus Corner. She was the last Principal of the Penobsquis Superior School when it closed. Ethlyn was a church organist for nearly 40 years, first at the Penobsquis Baptist Church, then at St. John’s United Church in Sus Corner. She loved playing the piano and practised daily for hours. She was an avid bowler and bowled on many teams at both the St Francis Bowling Alley and Sus Corner Bowl, as well as taking part in several Provincial tournaments. Ethlyn loved playing cards, attending card night at St Francis Church Hall, and Penobsquis Hall.
Ethlyn is survived by her son Paul (Mary) of Penobsquis, and daughters Tami Joyce (Darrell) of Riverview, and Kimberley Losier (Serge) of Smiths Creek, Grandchildren, Katherine, Sam (Kaelyn), Ben, Alisha (Kirk), Robert (Kyra), Salli (Rylan), Lanette (Chris), Stephanie (Kyle) and Monique (Luke), 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as sister-in-law, Elizabeth Pickel and brother-in-law, David Murray.
Along with her parents and husband, Ethlyn was predeceased by brothers Perry and Milton, and her sister Shirley Hirtle, brothers in law: Donald Murray, Jack Murray, Stu Murray, Art Hirtle, Jim Pickel and sisters in law: Doris Murray, Mable Murray, Jean Murray, Kathleen Murray, Nellie Bustin and Patricia Robinson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, (506-433-1176). A service celebrating Ethlyn’s life will be held at a later date.
