Heckbert – The death
occurred peacefully, at the South Shore Villa, Crapaud, on Tuesday,
December 27, 2022, of Ernest Wesley Heckbert, of Summerside, aged 92
years. Born in Summerside, he was the son of the late John
Wesley Heckbert and Ethel Winnifred Gould. Beloved father of John
(Mary) Heckbert, Mary (Gary) Arsenault, Norma (John) Wall, Dan (Linda)
Heckbert, Paul Heckbert, Susan Christensen and Cathy (Billy) Gallant;
daughters-in-law Patty Heckbert and Nancy Heckbert; grandchildren
Greg, Mike, Tim, Jason, Tim, Michelle, Shawna, Melissa, Kirk, Tressa,
Vicky, Scott, Dana, Lauren, Kandace, Carl, Nathan, Robyn, Nicole,
Krystle, Rebecca, and Jacob; 32 great-grandchildren; and by his sister
Ella MacEwen. Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Velda Heckbert;
sons Ray and Ernie; great-granddaughter Savanna; and his sister Ethel
Parsons. Ernie was the past president of the Rotary Club of
Summerside, Downtown Summerside Business Association, Summerside
Lobster Carnival and member of the Credit Granters Association of PEI.
He worked in finance most of his life. He was credit manager at
Smallman’s and was the manager of the Consolidated Credit
Union. The gym was Ernie’s second home. He competed in the
Atlantic Bodybuilding Championship in the Masters Division at age 75
and again at the age of 79. Ernie holds the title of the oldest
competing bodybuilder in PEI. He was featured in the American
Magazine, Muscle Mag and Wayne Wright’s book titled
Who’s Who on PEI. Resting at Moase Funeral Home,
Summerside. Interment will take place later in Floral Hills
Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Valley, with a graveside service to be held
in the spring. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be
appreciated.
