Obituary
On November 13, 1926, Nelles and Jessie Culp welcomed a baby boy, Ernest Philip Culp into the world outside of Luseland, Saskatchewan on the family farm.
Ernie grew up on the farm with his sister Janice and brother James (Jim). He attended school in Luseland, where he graduated grade 12. After graduating, he travelled to Thunder Bay, Ontario, where he unloaded grain cars. When that job was done, he travelled to Kingston, Ontario, where he worked in the steel mills. During the winters, he would travel to the west coast where he worked on the rail line construction, building bridges and on the Pacific steam ships. One winter, he lived in a logging camp, just north of Vancouver, along the B.C. coast. Always making it back to Luseland to help on the family farm when needed. During his travels, Ernie accumulated many friends, some of which became longtime friends. He would fondly tell stories of his adventures.
Ernie married Evelyn Martfeld in August of 1952, and had three children, Carolyn, Cheryl, and Everett. In 1966, Ernie and Evelyn moved to Alberta, where they bought a farm, just north of Nanton, which is still farmed by his son Everett. Ernie always went out to the farm to help with harvest, his last harvest was 10 years ago, when he was 85 years old. Ernie and Evelyn worked hard but always found time for enjoyment, whether it was playing cards, hosting Grey Cup parties, or camping out with the Nanton Legion. Ernie joined the Nanton Rock Hound Club and really enjoyed getting away to explore and find treasures. Ernie and Evelyn liked to travel, they enjoyed trips to Alaska, the Queen Charlotte Islands, and numerous bus trips south to Branson, Vegas, and California.
Ernie is predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn Culp, father Nelles Culp, mother Jessie Culp, sister Janice Tytler, brother Jim Culp, his best buddy Len Wakefield and granddaughter Jennifer Wilson.
Ernie is survived by his daughters Carolyn Wilson, Cheryl Williams, and son Everett (Sandra) Culp. His grandchildren, Jason (Jodi) Wilson, Kris (Ally) Wilson, Craig (Michelle) Williams, Laura (Brent) Annett, Chelsey (Mike) Williams, Corby (Sean) Williams, Olivia, and Ethan Culp. His great grandchildren, Shelby and Riley Wilson, Amy and Alex Wilson, Cadean and Jake Williams, Landen and Nathan Annett, Connor and Tenley Greer and his sister-in-law Millie Culp.
Ernie will be remembered for his love of lemon drop and raspberry candies, which were always in his shirt pocket, alongside his toothpick.
Ernie passed away on May 30, 2022, at the age of 95 years.
A graveside service will be held on June 16, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the Nanton Cemetery.
