Eric Anthony Atkinson went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2022, after a short but valiant fight with cancer. Born in Nanaimo, BC on March 24, 1964, Eric was the second of four children, to parents Dennis Earl and Verna Irene Atkinson (predeceased). They moved to Surrey, BC where Eric enjoyed sports such as soccer, lacrosse, Tae Kwon-do, and graduated from NSSS and was married, soon after to his high school sweetheart.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Rose, and son Michael, daughter Rebecca (Brian, and grandchildren Brian and Faith), daughter Deborah (Tahan and grandchildren Lucas, Eden, and Asher) and daughter Danielle (Brooks and grandchildren Tova and Saoirse), brother Lyle (Sue), sister Mel (Rick), and Sue (Joe) plus numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by family near and far.
Eric invested greatly in the people around him, whether work, home, or church. His legacy of love and loyalty is marked in the people he served. He spent more than 30 years at Coast Mountain Bus Company where he went from bus driver to Supervisor to Bus Services Manager – overseeing a department of over 200.
Eric enjoyed the adventures of outdoor life: camping, RVing, shooting, and fishing. He kept busy with retirement this past year, with hobbies, people, and home projects. Eric loved to travel, go on adventures, and was always planning the next one. He loved food, red wine, and drink pairing. Always trying new methods of cooking, his latest food trend was smoking meats on his “Smoking Gun Grill”.
He spent his fifty-eight years understanding the unconditional love of God. Through ups and downs in this journey of life, he found God himself. His final year, he cherished times in prayer, listening to sermons, worship music and listening to the audio Bible. He also enjoyed the Chosen TV series. Even at the end, he had a positive outlook on his life where God’s strength carried him right through. Cancer did not take him, but rather Christ called him home. His parting anniversary gift to his wife arrived in a parcel on November 17, a new Bible.
The family kindly requests no flowers please. No specific charities chosen, as he gave to many charities over the years: to missionaries, ministries, churches, orphans, and initiatives advocating for the underprivileged.
The family is immensely grateful for the many condolences and care expressed by meals, calls, texts, and visits.
The Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, Dec 10 from 2-4pm at Kings Community Church in Langley. www.tkc.com/ contact-us-4
