Emma Randi (Keene) Whitmarsh 1919 – 2022
It is with profound sadness that the family of Emma Randi Whitmarsh announce her passing at Eatonia Oasis Living on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the age of 103. Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life and love are Emma’s daughters, Dianne (Helmut Lowenberger) and Jo-Ann (Bob Hauck), as well extended family members and many friends. Emma was predeceased by her husband, Milton Whitmarsh, her parents, Leslie and Lillian Keene, as well as her three brothers and one sister.
Throughout her life, Emma rarely sat with idle hands. Productivity and a sense of accomplishment were important to Emma. She tended her vegetable and flower gardens with great care. Emma loved to be outdoors working in the soil and feeling the warmth of the sun on her face. Her garden was her sanctuary where she would commune with nature and with the Lord. The intricate pattern on butterfly wings and the joyful music of song birds captured Emma’s interest as she would pause to marvel at God’s handiwork. It was not unusual to find Emma in the kitchen. She was an excellent baker and cook. Cinnamon buns, butter tarts, fruit pies, and vinarterta were just a few of the tasty treats that she happily shared with family members and friends gathered around her table. In winter months, crochet or knitting projects filled many evening hours as she created beautiful afghans and sweaters. During moments of relaxation, Emma was an avid reader, which paved the way for her to become a formidable Scrabble player. While every game was played for fun, Emma also played to win!! With each new match, she endeavoured to earn a 50-point bonus by using all seven of her Scrabble tiles in a single word. Sometimes Emma was successful in her attempt, and sometimes she was not, but when she did, she would cheer and her eyes would sparkle with delight. Scrabble was Emma’s game!! Like everyone, Emma had several roles and many responsibilities during her life, countless relationships, and various facets to her personality. Above all, it was Emma’s wish to be remembered for her commitment to her family and her friends. A devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring aunt, and a loyal friend – these relationships were the foundation of Emma’s life, along with her steadfast faith in her Lord and Savior.
At Emma’s request, no funeral service will be held. A private interment will be planned for a future date.
