Elvin “Lee” Vittetoe, age 90, of Mascot, TN passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022. Lee was born in Grainger County, TN to the late Harvey Lee and Esther Acuff Vittetoe. Lee graduated from Washburn High School in 1949. He was a proud United States Army veteran who served in the 9th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War. Following his military service Lee graduated from Carson Newman College with a degree in Education. He went on to complete his Masters at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Lee worked as an educator and an administrator for Knox County Schools until his retirement in 1996. He was a deacon and a long-time member of Mascot Baptist Church.
Lee is survived by his wife of 66 years, Roberta Ann Vittetoe and their son, Chris Vittetoe (Linda Ray) of Blaine, TN as well as his loving granddaughters; Kelly Vittetoe and Karly Vittetoe Huckabey (Alex). Lee is preceded in death by his brothers: Earl Vittetoe, Deaderick “Bo” Vittetoe (Audrey), Doyle Vittetoe and Charlie Vittetoe (Louise); sisters, Ruby Vittetoe and Glenda Vittetoe Henry. He is survived by his sister Edith Vittetoe Bertini along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Lee has left behind a legacy of devotion to his family and has set a lasting example for all who knew him as a man of faith, impeccable character and outstanding work ethic. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm with the funeral to follow at 7:00 pm at Bridges Funeral Home on Rutledge Pike. Family and friends will meet on Saturday, May 7th at 11:00 am at Kitts Cemetery in Washburn, TN for a short graveside service. Pallbearers will be Chris Vittetoe, Sam Vittetoe, Russell Vittetoe, Alex Huckabey, David Roach and Dale Morgan. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made in his name to The Pat Summit Foundation in support of their fight against Alzheimer’s Disease.
