Obituary
With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Elton Townsend on May 5th, 2022. Loving husband to Mary and caring and inspirational father to Charlotte (Leon) and Marilyn (John).
Elton was predeceased by his son David’s tragic death who followed his father’s love of aviation, and his brothers Willard and Jim.
Elton is survived by 2 sisters Beth McGee (Rick) and Nancy Fraser.
Elton was always a self-made, take-charge person. At a young age after the death of his father, as the eldest Elton took over as the head of the family to be there for his mother and siblings. He started his impressive aviation career in the RCAF as an aircraft technician. After, Elton soon started his own company. He grew his businesses over 50 years to become Lake Central Air Services with 32 staff. His business became known for being the largest Lake amphibian dealer that was a repair facility and specialized modifications parts manufacturer for many aircraft including antique, homebuilt, Basler DC3, other turboprops and even jets. Elton dedicated himself to the business and was known for his specialized wealth of industry knowledge and relished sharing and mentoring all who were interested including family. Elton gained global recognition resulting in work with the Alfred Wegener Institute (for studies in the Arctic and Antarctic), Universities and NASA to name a few.
His interests outside aviation involved sailing as he took on making his own wood hull sailboat; finally getting to enjoy that passion in retirement.
We want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the staff at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, Bracebridge for their wonderful care of Elton and understanding.
A private family service will be held at Princeton Cemetery in late May.
A donation in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, Bracebridge or a charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be made through the Funeral Home website.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Elton Robert Townsend April 25 1937 May 5 2022 (age 85)..
