Obituary for
Elsie Nellie Belziuk
1937 – 2022
Elsie Belziuk, much loved Mom, Baba and Great-baba, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 10, 2022.
Elsie was born October 29, 1937, on a farm in Oakburn, Manitoba to parents Joseph and Anne Sitko. She had four sisters and together had several stories living on the farm. She completed her education at the Rapid City High School.
As a young woman she moved to Alberta in 1957, married Jerry Belziuk in October 1960, and together raised four daughters on a farm near Morinville. While raising children and working on the farm, Elsie developed many skills. As a seamstress, she had sewn her daughter’s wedding dress and several bridal party dresses. She was best known for her wonderful cabbage rolls and perogies – people came from all around to purchase and enjoy them.
Elsie practiced her Ukrainian Orthodox faith at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church (Fedorah) and was a part of organizing church and community activities.
Elsie is survived by her children, Karen (Claudio) Baretta, Sharon (Lyle) McIvor, Darlene (Dino) Zanni, and Sherri-Lynn (Jason) Cook; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Anne; two sons-in-law, Claudio and Lyle; sister, Ethel; brothers-in-law, Ross and Joe; and parents-in-law, William and Nancy.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at St. Michael’s Long Term Care Centre for their kind and compassionate care.
Prayers will be held Monday, June 20, 2022, at 7 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton. Funeral Rite Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church (Fedorah), Township Road 573, Lily Lake Road. Both will be officiated by Reverend Father Michael Moranchuk.
