Bennett, Elsie (nee Meade)
July 9, 1944 – January 4, 2022
Passed peacefully at Dufferin Oaks LTC in Shelburne, ON at the tender age of 77 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Beloved partner of Wade Champion. Precious mother to Rosemarie(Darcy), Cathy(Wolfe), Jason(Jackie), Bob(Darlene); Stepmom to Sean(Nirvana); Cherished grandmother of Nicholas, Linda, Samantha, Steven, Stephen, Stephanie, Maryann, Jamie, Calvin, Becky, Patrick; great-grandmother of Lucas, Harrison, Marissa, Maddie, Andrew, Jordan, Tyler, Joshua, Jack; Remembered by her sisters Catherine & Harriett; Predeceased by her parents Robert and Maryann Meade of Ramea, NL, and her brothers Charlie, Ephraim, Tom and her sisters Georgina, Frances, Olive and Sarah.
Our mom grew up on the little island of Ramea, NL, on the southwest coast of Newfoundland. She worked on the fish plant there for a number of years before moving to Diamond Cove, NL to grow and raise her family.
Eventually she moved to Ontario in the 1970’s and grew her love for country music. Writing songs and at times singing and playing the accordion. She loved taking pictures wherever she went, with her video camera always close by. Always with a big smile, contagious laughter and quick wit. She loved her family unconditionally from the bottom of her heart. Always doting on her kids and grandkids. Her homemade bread was to die for and always quickly disappeared. As was her Jigg’s dinner. She may be gone from this earth, but will definitely never be forgotten. Forever alive in our hearts and thoughts, she will live forever.
There will be no Funeral Gathering at this time due to unforeseen circumstances.
Cremation will be taking place at this time with a Memorial planned in the near future.
A tree will be planted in memory of Elsie in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
