Obituary of Ellenor Black
Passed away peacefully, on July 15, 2022 at Grandview Lodge in Dunnville in her 106th year. Predeceased by her husband Harley Black (1991). Survived by her children Doug (Agi), Brian, and Vivian. She will be missed by her granddaughter Sarah (Mathieu) and great grandson Lucas as well as by many other extended family and friends. Born in the Hamlet of Winslow in 1917, she became a teacher and taught in Caistor, Hamilton, and Gainsboro elementary schools. She then taught for 20+ years at Fonthill High School and E.L Crossley. She was a founding member of the West Lincoln Historical Society and was involved in the acquisition and restoration of the Smithville Train Station. She was a proud editor of West Lincoln – Our Links with the Past. Ellenor was also a long-time member of Bethany United Church. The family would also like to thank the staff of Grandview Lodge for their excellent care. Visitation will be at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Thursday July 28, 2022 from 10-11 a.m.. A funeral service will take place immediately following at 11 a.m.. An interment will follow the service. If desired, memorial contributions to West Lincoln Historical Society would be appreciated by the family and can be made through Merritt Funeral Home (905-957-7031)
