Obituary For Eleanor Doris Krause (nee Newman)
Eleanor Doris Krause, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2022, at the Grande Prairie Care Center, just short of 93 years old. She was born April 22, 1929, in Strathclair, MB, the youngest child to Paul and Annie (nee Moulton) Newman.
After surviving the dirty 30’s in Manitoba, the family packed up and moved to the Goodwin, AB, area to homestead. It was there that she met and later married Ted Krause on July 29, 1946. They had three children: Daryl in July 1947, Karen in April 1952, and Lou in May 1955. Eleanor and Ted farmed and then went into the construction business in Manning, AB. She was always an integral part of every pursuit. After the construction business, they had many other business ventures in the Peace County and travelled extensively before finally deciding to go their separate ways.
Eleanor remained in Grande Prairie, where she enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. She also loved working in her yard with her beautiful flowers, and continued to travel all across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. She loved all animals, especially horses and dogs. Her greatest passion and treasured gift was her music. She loved to play the harmonica, accordion, and piano. In her later years, she never went anywhere without packing her keyboard along to play a tune for family and friends. Residents and staff at the Heritage Lodge loved it and looked forward to her weekly music sessions, and some even danced along!
Unfortunately, in November 2017, at the age of 88, Eleanor had a stroke, and eventually, by December 2018, was moved into Emerson Court of the Grande Prairie Care Center, where she lived her final years. In April 2019, she celebrated her 90th Birthday surrounded by many cherished family and friends. She even played a few tunes on the piano, while Daryl played guitar and sang. It was a most wonderful day, as music, family, and friends always made her so happy!
Eleanor was a positive, generous, loving person that always wanted the best for everyone that had the blessing of knowing her. Her sincere kindness, sense of humor, bubbly personality, and contagious belly laugh will be missed by many. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, and friend.
Eleanor will be dearly missed by her son Daryl (Shirley) Krause, and grandchildren: Heather (Brent) Pears, Chad Krause, Darron (Lisa) Krause, and Dr. Vanessa (Aki) Krause Georgacacos; daughter Karen (Dwight) Smith, and grandchildren: Dion Villeneuve, and Geitan (Danny) Hughes; daughter Lou (Ron) Dierker, and grandchildren: Craig (Nicole) Dierker, and Christy (Scott) Young; as well as several great and great great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents Paul and Annie; all her siblings and their spouses, including brothers: Stan, Joe, Melford, and Percy; and sisters: Vera, Edna, Ilene, Irene and Grace; as well as her son in-law Ken Graw.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr Maxwell, Christine, and all the staff at the Grande Prairie Care Center in Emerson Court for the wonderful care throughout her final years. We would also like to send out an extra special thank you to Alffa Foley, as she was a significant part of Mom’s last few years at the Grande Prairie Care Center. Her countless visits and helping Mom Facetime with us, will always be remembered and most appreciated.
Eleanor’s final wishes were to be cremated and following this summer, there will be a small family gathering where love, music, cherished memories, and laughter will be shared in her memory.
Memorial Donations in Eleanor’s honor, may be made to the Grande Prairie Care Center (9705 94 Ave, Grande Prairie T8V 3A2) or Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association (12220 104 Ave, Grande Prairie T8V 8A8).
