Eldridge Reg Vincent Thorne Jr 2022

Obituary
It is with profound sadness and grief that the family of Eldridge (Reg) Thorne Jr. announces his passing at the Health Sciences Centre on July 2, 2022. Reg will be forever remembered by his children Vincent Hillier (Helen), Christine Thorne, their mother Carol Hillier, as well as his grandchildren Mason, Mara, Destiny, and Darius.
Reg was a loving, loyal, reliable, and caring son to his mother Lily Thorne, especially so in the few short years since the passing of his father, Eldridge Thorne Sr. in 2017.
Reg was a loving and protective brother to his sisters, Deborah (Philip) Hooper, Emily (Adrian) Rodgers, and Cynthia Thorne, and brother to Albert (Helen)Thorne. Reg also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews who will miss his text messages and regular family Zoom calls. Reg will be sadly missed by his loving aunts, uncles and many cousins who lifted him up with their love and prayers.
Having suffered a near fatal heart attack when he was just 23, Reg spent his years in and out of hospital; facing every new development with courage, strength and determination to recover and live a full life while he awaited a matching donor to give him a new heart and lease on life. That day finally came on August 24, 2017 (his second birthday) and he lived his new life post-transplant in deep gratitude to the donor’s family, taking care of his new heart.
A skilled electrician by trade, Reg could not only wire a house, he could make any repair large or small, and perform any renovation. We will always remember Reg for his sharp wit, quips and comebacks; he especially enjoyed catching serious medical staff off guard and making them dissolve in laughter.
Perhaps because he knew how fragile life is, Reg ended every call with “I love you.” He knew he was loved and supported; he had his family with him to the very end and the prayers of many family members and friends near and far. And now, after his many health battles, Reg is finally free from pain and worries. He leaves a huge void in our lives and we will miss him every single day.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John’s on Thursday, July 7th from 12:00pm -4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm, and on Friday July 8th from 11:00am-1:00pm. Funeral service will be held at Barrett’s Chapel at 2pm, followed by inurnment at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. The family kindly asks that masks be worn at the visitation and service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Reg’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador at the following link secure-support.heartandstroke.ca/site/SPageServer?pagename=DMDonationForm&s_locale=en_CA&s_fT=cont&s_pres=hsweb&s_cscid=hsweb_nav&_ga=2.105987843.1011186185.1656936120-1005039618.1656936120
