Edward Wil Mason, age 51 of Orangeville, Ontario, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 after a long brave battle with addiction. He is survived by his wife Diane Leybourne, his children, Eric Mason and Faith Mason, and step son Justin Skinner. Friend Tasha Mol, and many aunts, uncles, siblings and other loved ones. Edward never wanted to be defined by his struggle, addiction and mistakes, he was much more than that. But I know that if he were to ever pass as a result of it he would want people to know the truth with the hope that honesty about his death could help break the stigma around addicts, and get people talking about the problem of addiction that takes so many lives away. For the people that had the pleasure of knowing Edward knew he was kind hearted and knew how funny and goofy he could be, he would do anything to light up the room with smiles and laughter even while fighting all of his demons. No matter what type of day he was having he always pushed to make someone else’s day better. He became one of the kindest people you could meet, had a heart of gold and always meant well. Edward wanted to get better; he planned to do so for his family and loved ones as well as himself, and fought hard all the way until the end. Addiction doesn’t discriminate, it will take hold and destroy anyone in its path including families and people who love them. Edward is not just another statistic or just “another one gone”. He was a kind man that was full of life, so the best way to honour Edward is for people who read this or knew him to think twice before judging an addict.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
A tree will be planted in memory of Edward in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
