Edward (Ted) Michael Tatem
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Ted Tatem. He passed away on Tuesday, December 13 2022 at the age of 74. After more than four years of struggling with Dementia, Ted is now free from its grip and Is finally at peace.
Ted will be lovingly remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved his family to the fullest. Ted leaves behind his loving wife Maureen and his three sons; Mark (Maria), Colin (Ruby) and Scott (Kristy), as well as his four special grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ted is also survived by his sister Marilyn (Gary). Ted was always a family man, and he was proud and supportive of his sons and grandchildren.
Although he was born in Medicine Hat, Ab., he was raised in Tilley, Ab. Farming, hunting, and hockey were his younger loves, but they took second place to the real love of his life – Maureen, his High School sweetheart. They shared over 98 adventurous years together. Maureen was his rock, his partner, his best friend and finally his biggest advocate!
As a man of faith, Ted was determined that there be a Catholic School system in Okotoks. He was one of the instruments in the formation of the Christ the Redeemer Separate School system. Ted became the first Chairman of the original School Board.
Ted continued to love hockey and joined the Okotoks Spoilers. He was known as “Tiger Ted” #2 jersey. He even has his own official Okotoks Spoilers 1992 Trader Cards. During the warmer months Ted loved the golfing adventures with the Spoiler group.
Ted loved sailing, something he must have inherited from his dad. After several years of sailing up and down the west coast of BC with Grandchildren and friends, he finally achieved his dream of sailing to Mexico. Of course, this included Maureen. “Tarry-A-Bit” was their sailing vessel that gave them many adventures along the coast of Mexico. They also travelled inland all over Mexico.
Life long friendships developed from his hockey, golf and sailing days.
As an Agrologist with both the City of Cranbrook) and the City of Calgary was responsible for the disposing of waste water and biosolids by safe and ted
environmentally sound land applications to farmers. Working with far and land owners seemed to be what Ted enjoyed the most.
Thanks to the caring staff at the Bethany Riverview, especially Stephanie and Chris. I’m sure they have many stories about Ted.
A special thanks also to the palliative care received at the Rocky View Hospital, Unit 73. They were very supportive during Ted’s end of life.
In the Spirit of Christmas, the family would ask that donations be made to a food bank or a Christmas hamper to a needy family, or to a shelter for the homeless. Ted would have appreciated this.
Arrangments are in care of Snodgrass Funeral Homes, Okotoks 403 938 3111. To email condolences, please visit www.snodgrassfuneralhomes.com
