Obituary
Ted Young passed away May 10, 2022, at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Center. Ted is survived by two sons Edward (Christine), granddaughter Sarah and step-grandchildren Matthew and Alexis; and son Jim (former spouse and daughter-in-law Vicki). Ted also is survived by brothers-in-law Ken Laing and family, Craig Laing (Gerry) and family; and sister-in-law Pat Weisgeber (Charlie) and family. Ted was predeceased by wife Beth and parents George and Grace Young.
Born September 29, 1945, in Brandon, Manitoba to George and Grace Young and raised in the Roseland district on the family farm and attended Roseland School. On November 30, 1968, Ted married Beth Laing and continued to farm and raise their family in the Roseland District while working alongside Ted’s dad. Once the boys got old enough to help on the farm the three generations worked together. Ted took the time to pass on to his sons all aspects of raising livestock and farming.
Ted was active in the community volunteering with the curling rink and community suppers. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting with the boys and neighbors. He took pride in passing on his hunting experience to others. Ted’s caring nature was always to lend a hand to others and genuinely care about others regardless of whether they were family, neighbors, or friends. He always helped with family whenever he could, never batting an eye at a moment’s notice.
Ted and Beth enjoyed gardening together. They took pride in vegetable and flower gardens, even after Beth’s passing, he maintained the gardens. His garden size never changed and always shared with others what was plentiful for others to enjoy. Sunday drives with Beth and special family friends, Russ and Pauline Carefoot always was an adventure looking at crops and machinery dealer lots and stopping along the way for a BBQ & ice cream.
Ted was very much a family man who always took an interest in all his grandchildren’s lives. His calls to see how everyone is doing will be missed, as will his visits during the holidays & family dinners.
A private family graveside service will be followed by a come and go fellowship tea at the Ponoka Elks Hall on Tuesday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m.
