On December 30, 2021, at the age of 84, Edward John Kelly left the love of his life, Pauline (nee Gibbons), his daughters Cindy Kelly and Edwina Poole (Cory), granddaughter Megan Poole, grandson Matthew Poole, sister Alice Kelly, brothers Andy Kelly, Steve Kelly (Patricia), Gus Kelly (Mary), Roy Kelly (Nora), Richard Kelly (Patricia), and Ron Kelly (Bonita), sisters-in-law Joan Kelly, Ann Ryan (Aiden), Gertrude Mahan, Margie Gibbons (Tim), Sandra Gibbons (John), Martina Gibbons (Herbert), Evelyn Gibbons, brothers-in-law Adrian Gibbons (Mary) and Simon Gibbons (Francis), many adoring nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Elizabeth & Andrew Kelly, sister Cecilia Spurrell, brothers Cyril Kelly, Joseph Kelly, and William Kelly, parents-in-law Maria & Alonzo Gibbons, sisters-in-law Nellie Kelly and Ellen Green, brothers-in-law Douglas Spurrell, Leonard Gibbons & Alonzo Gibbons, niece Stephanie Kelly, and nephews Wayne Kelly, Randy Kelly, Walter Kelly, and Todd Kelly.
Born January 10, 1937, in Gambo, NL, Edward was a devoted husband and kind generous person who loved his family unconditionally. He enjoyed a wide circle of friends & acquaintances, especially dear friends, Myrtle & Dan Mahoney. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved fly-fishing, his cabin at Gambo Pond, moose hunting with his brothers, curling, walking, and his Toronto Maple Leafs. He had a wonderful sense of humour, as only a Leafs fan can have. Edward was the sleep whisperer to his dear grandchildren when they were wee ones; he would rock them slowly to sleep with a look of utter contentment on his face. He read to his daughter, Cindy, every night when she was a small child, inspiring her love of reading. He shared a keen sense of humour with his daughter Edwina with both able to make the other giggle uncontrollably. Many residents of Gander were familiar with Edward and Pauline going for their regular daily walks, even as his Alzheimer’s Disease advanced.
The family will hold a mass and Celebration of Life in the summer of 2022; details will be shared later.
