Obituary
Edith Papequash passed away at the Norquay Health Centre, Norquay, SK, on August 23, 2022, at the age of 86 years.
Edith entered this world on August 15, 1936, on the Gordon First Nation, SK. She was raised on the Key First Nation with her mother, Isabel Papequash and stepfather, Charlie Papequash, along with the help of her grandmother, Betsy Papequash.
Edith was sent off to boarding school where she stayed until she was old enough to return home.
She had many hobbies which included sewing, cooking, playing cards, going to the casino, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active in her community, she sat on many boards. She was a hard worker and worked alongside her husband on their farm. She was a self-taught veterinarian, drove farm implements, and was known as a jack-of-all-trades.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Edith was predeceased by her parents, Isabel Papequash and Ernest Brass; husband, Bill O’Soup; sisters: Evelyn Papequash, Christina Papequash, Gladys Papequash, Corine Papequash, Clara Papequash, Victoria Brass, Joyce Brass, and Emily Gordon; brothers: William Papequash, Alvin Papequash, Winston Papequash, Stanley Papequash, Benjamin Papequash, Robert Brass, Roland Brass, Arnold Brass, and Milton Brass; daughter, Darlene Papequash, in infancy; grandchildren, Tyler Papequash, Felicia Brass, and Jeanette Brass; and great-grandchild, Kaylon Ty Favel.
She is survived by her loving children: Marlene Brass, Lila Papequash, Elaine Papequash, Shirley Papequash, and Esther Papequash; adopted children whom she loved as her own: Joe Gordon, Dutch Lerat, Norman Whitehawk, Peter Nippi, Sharon Key, Lyman Papequash, and Lawrence Papequash; her 24 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lloyd Brass and Eddy Brass; as well as her extended family and many friends.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at the Norquay Health Centre for their love, care, and support shown to Edith. They also would like to thank everyone who came and supported the family in her final days.
A Wake Service will begin at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2022, and the Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2022, both from the Saulteaux Plex Hall, Key First Nation, SK. Interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Key First Nation, SK.
