Edith Louise Montgomery
1937-2022
It is with great
sadness that the family of Edith Montgomery announces her passing at
the South Health Campus in Calgary on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the
age of 84.
Edith was born in
Hartland N.B. to Ruth and Arden Nevers and graduated from Hartland
High in 1955, followed by Fredericton Business College. She was
employed by the Dept. of veteran’s Affairs until
1961.
In 1959 she and Robert were married and
lived in Fredericton while he attended UNB. In 1961, they moved to
Hamilton, Ontario, where she began employment with Westinghouse. Here
they began their family with their first daughter Pamela. Their family
expanded with the births of Barbara, then Nancy, as they moved from
Toronto (3 times), St. Catharines, Halifax, Miami and finally settled
in Calgary in 1979.
In Calgary, she
worked for Cooperators, from which she retired in 1992. She then
became a dedicated golfer and enjoyed years with her many friends at
Cottonwood. During that time, Edith became a devoted grandma to six
beautiful grandkids. She also enjoyed bowling, hiking, playing bridge,
and square-dancing. She and Bob loved to travel and had many
adventures together. Edith was a compassionate person who saw the good
in all people and loved her 25 years of volunteering with the
CNIB.
She was predeceased
by parents Arden and Ruth Nevers, and sisters Roberta Nevers and Anna
(John) Hatton.
She is survived by
husband Robert; daughters Pamela (Mario) Montgomery, Barbara (Cam)
Montgomery, Nancy (Dean) Carlson; grandchildren Jill Sweetnam, Connor
(Mckenzie) Allan, Zachary Montgomery, Robin (Jessica) Carlson, Anna
Carlson, Noah Carlson; great grandson Brooks Carlson; and sisters
Eleanor Hayes and Rayma Moon.
A Celebration of Life
will be held on Wednesday, June 15, at 2 pm, at McInnis and Holloway
Funeral Homes Crematorium and Hospitality Centre, 12281 40th St.
SE.
If
friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Edith’s name to the
Alzheimer Society.
Edith will be interred in the Greenwood Cemetery
in Hartland, NB on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. There will
be a reception at the Britton Funeral Home, 2 High Street Hartland
following the interment.
