AKINS, Earl James
Passed away after a brief illness on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Stratford General Hospital. Earl was a resident of the Milverton and Stratford Communities. Born 88 years ago in Milverton, Ontario, a son of the late Roy and Mayetta (Schwindt) Akins.
Beloved husband of Joan (Cousins) Akins, whom he cherished almost 67 years of marriage with. Devoted and loving father of Jennifer (David Kotulak), David Akins (Angela), Lori (Dwain Kotulak), Sherri (Gerhard Negrazis), Heather Akins, Michelle (Phil Healey). Proud grandfather of 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Earl will be missed by daughter-in-law Alma Akins, sister Helen Miller and husband Gordon, brother-in-law Murray Coxon, sisters-in-law Dorothy Boon and Ilene Teahen and husband David as well as by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Predeceased by his son Steven Akins (2021), brother Murray Akins, sister Ann Coxon and brothers-in-law Fred Boon and Donnie Cousins and wife Jean.
Earl was a Train Enthusiast, employed by the CN Rail for 36 years. Earl collected trains, went to every show he could, and even built a Choo Choo bar which he and Joan enjoyed a happy hour cocktail when they could. He enjoyed collecting smoking pipes and cherished his collections dearly. Joan and Earl enjoyed travelling to Florida after retirement and spent 22 years wintering in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 7 Spencer Street, Milverton, on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 2 – 4 p.m. A funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Milverton. Reception to follow in the funeral home.
For those unable to attend the funeral a live stream of the service will be available.
